Guillermo Rico Cigars

Tobacco farmer and cigar manufacturer Guillermo Rico believes in patience and building his business slowly and steadily, carefully putting his cigars on the market. His hallmark is attention to detail and a high degree of confidence in strict quality control.

Given his background, such attention to detail is hardly surprising. The Rico family’s tobacco history dates back to 1920, when Guillermo Rico’s grandfather began growing black tobacco. His father took over in 1946, and Guillermo recalls as a child following him through the fields, while his mother rolled cigars at home. This legacy continues today at Gran Habano with a strong sense of family tradition instilled in each cigar made in Danli, Honduras. In 1998, the factory was founded, becoming the home of premium cigars and the quintessence of Gran Habano style.

2003 was the year when father and son team, Guillermo and George Rico, introduced our main line of Gran Habano handmade cigars and achieved resounding success. These long-filler cigars became the backbone of the company’s brand with 3 different blends:

  • Connecticut #1, a mild but flavorful cigar in a Connecticut shade wrapper;
  • Habano #3, a medium-bodied cigar in a Habano wrapper;
  • Corojo #5, a full-bodied cigar in a Corojo wrapper.

These experimental blends always maintained consistency and they remain our best-selling cigars.

The legacy of cigar production at Gran Habano remains a family affair. The factory is based in Miami, Florida, where Guillermo and George Rico strive for quality in every leaf and cigar produced. Honesty and passion are what drives them to make superb cigars that blend with a sense of originality, a hallmark of our company. We look to the future with optimism and great gratitude to those who have discovered us and our brand.

Factory Tabacos EL Guajiro

The Tabacos EL Guajiro factory was founded in Spain in 1935 on the island of Tenerife. Initially, only hand-rolled cigars were produced. In the early 1960s, the process was improved, allowing for expansion of production, and the factory became internationally renowned. Today, the factory produces 45 million cigars annually and offers a wide range of cigars from light to full-bodied. El Guajiro cigarillos are primarily created from imported raw materials from the world’s best tobacco-growing regions. The filler consists of select large-cut leaves grown in Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Indonesia, while Sumatran tobacco leaves from Indonesia are used for the wrapper. The family of Don Braulio is still responsible for maintaining the careful selection of raw materials and the high-quality standards that characterize the company, which have not changed over time.
